A Helping Hoof, PLLC, located in Grantsville, UT was started as a place for veterans to help transition them from military to civilian life as well as/or learn coping skills and reducing of any problems that may have occurred while in the military. Veterans who take part in the program are from all eras from Vietnam to OIF/OEF. Many participants were in the service during peacetime, but also suffered traumatic experiences while in the service. The focus is to have the horses help veterans learn new ways to manage their energy levels, calm themselves down, focus, get grounded, and learn to trust again. Several veterans have commented that they feel a similarity between themselves and the fresh Mustangs that enter the program for gentling. Both are on high alert, have a quick startle response, difficulty trusting, and ingrained survival skills.
