Description: Paws for Heroes is a nonprofit that rescues homeless dogs and professionally trains them to serve as companion dogs for veterans suffering from PTSD, at no cost to the veteran. Eligibility

Paws for Heroes provides professionally trained companion dogs or emotional support dogs.  A companion animal or emotional support animal is a pet that is not permitted to have public access.  Paws for Heroes dogs are obedience trained and trained to Urban Canine Good Citizen standard.

Paws for Heroes does not provide service dogs.  Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to perform a task for a person with a disability.  The task must be directly related to the person's disability.  See the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) FAQ's about service animals here.   To learn more about the difference between companion dogs and service dogs, click here.
