Description: Heart of Texas Region MHMR Center offers a variety of services and supports for veterans -- from peer-to-peer support groups such as Operation BEITZ, to family groups like ORF, to the Veterans One Stop Center, and the Independence Center. Whether you are a long-term veteran or one just returning from a tour, check out the programs below, drop by or give us a call.

Additionally the new Texas Veterans Portal is a great resource for veterans and their families. The portal includes helpful information related to:

• Military benefits
• Employment resources
• Education
• Health Care

The goal of this initiative is to enhance availability and access to resources for Texas veterans and their families.

BEITZ: We care about the issues that affect our community veterans. The Heart of Texas Region MHMR Center has taken an active role in providing support for veterans that suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD) through support groups such as the Peer-to-Peer (Bring Everyone in the Zone or BEITZ). This peer-to-peer support workshop is for men and women of all military eras. BEITZ is a volunteer, veteran/peer-driven organization supported by professionals from academia and mental health services. It was created by former staff and veterans in the inpatient PTSD program at the Waco, TX VA Medical Center.

ORF: Another workshop being offered that provides support to our community veterans and their families is Operation Resilient Families (ORF). This is a program of experiential learning: empowering and encouraging veterans and their families to address post-deployment challenges with strength, intention, and shared community. ORF is an eight-session peer-led program for veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), their families and close friends. Both workshops (Peer to Peer and Operation Resilient Families) are free of charge.

Center is focused on establishing a Military Veteran Peer Network (Veterans helping veterans). This network is comprised of veteran volunteers who have been trained in mental health peer-to-peer counseling. The network services include at a minimum, responding to requests from veterans who are seeking access to veteran and military family reintegration services. Reintegration services include, but are not limited to, meeting with the veteran one-on-one or in group settings and informing them about and/or referring them to community health and human service providers.
